Best Buy Store 205 Employees Volunteer with Keep Irving Beautiful at Irving Fire Department

Employee volunteers from the Best Buy Store number 205, located on Highway 183 in Irving, took time off from their regular jobs to give back to the community in a service project with Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB). The group of ten volunteers met the KIB staff at the Irving Fire Department’s Administration Building on the morning of Thursday, September 20, to take on the task of staining a weathered enclosure in the parking lot.  After applying protective tape to the IFD logos which were located on each of the four sides of the structure, the group began the process of treating the wood with stain and seal.  They were so efficient in doing so, that they finished with enough time left to move next door to the City Hall parking lot to stain the dumpster enclosure there. When all was done, the group had given 30 hours of service in improving the visual appearance of these areas.

The efforts of these dedicated volunteers certainly did not go unnoticed. Assistant Fire Chief Taylor welcomed the group as they arrived, and thanked them on behalf of the Fire Department.   Shortly after that, Mayor Rick Stopfer stopped on his way to work to thank the Best Buy volunteers for coming out and giving of their time, and even posed for pictures. Several passers-by took note of the activities and expressed their appreciation to the group.

“One of the great things about Irving is our large and diverse business community that places a value on good corporate citizenship,” said KIB Board Member Scott Wilson. “We are seeing more and more companies encouraging their employees to volunteer with local organizations, and that really makes a difference.  KIB has worked with both of Irving’s Best Buy locations in the past on both cleanup and paint projects, and we hope to do more in the future.”
