Keep Irving Beautiful Visits Heritage Senior Center - Staff Promotes Recycling, Clean Public Spaces

In addition to the many activities offered at the Heritage Senior Center, the seniors recently had the opportunity to interact with Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) staff and learn more about recycling and clean public spaces. KIB paid a visit to the Senior Center, located in the Heritage District of Downtown Irving, on Thursday, August 16. They brought informative brochures as well as a variety of items to distribute, and spoke with many of the seniors who came by their table. Among the most popular of the giveaway items were reusable grocery bags made from recycled plastic bottles. As part of their partnership with the Friends of the Irving Public Library, KIB brought donated books for the seniors to choose from.  They also provided blue recycle bags and discussed the materials that could be recycled in curbside pickup.

“We make visits to many facilities in Irving, like libraries, recreation centers and schools,” said KIB Board member Candace Eldridge, “but there is always something special about coming to the Heritage Senior Center. Ann Gillespie and her staff make us feel very welcome, and the seniors are eager to learn about what they can do to help the environment by making the right choices in their daily lives, like recycling and not littering.”

Keep Irving Beautiful reaches out to all sectors of our city including government, business, church, cultural, educational, neighborhood and civic organizations.  If you are interested in volunteering with KIB, or making your activity a “green event,” please go to Keep Irving Beautiful, or call (972) 721-2175.
