KIB Board Member Candace Eldridge with event attendee at the KIB table

Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) continued a longstanding tradition of attending the Unite for Troops Veterans Day event on Nov. 9. The annual event is hosted by Porter’s Army and Navy. KIB’s role at the event was both as an exhibitor and as the provider of green event supplies, including recycling stations placed throughout the grounds. Visitors to the KIB table had the opportunity to spin a wheel and answer questions in six different categories related to the environment. Prizes included recycled books donated by the Friends of the Irving Public Library.  KIB also supported the three R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle— by distributing reusable items, such as shopping bags and drinking pouches. Additionally, KIB offered attendees many varieties of seed packets to grow their own flowers, vegetables and herbs.

“Unite for Troops is a community event that KIB is always proud and honored to be a part of,” said KIB board member Candace Eldridge. “It’s a family-friendly atmosphere and everyone attends to honor veterans, support active military, and have a fun and educational experience.”

Unite for Troops activities are focused on packing boxes to send to United Service Organizations in Afghanistan. Volunteers contribute a wide variety of items, including snacks, toiletries and puzzle books. The items are intended to help bring the comforts of home to the deployed troops.
