Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) finished its career day outreach to the students of the Irving Independent School District by attending the Hanes Elementary event on Wednesday, May 25.  Approximately 120 second grade students and their teachers heard about the many things KIB does in the Irving community during the three sessions presented by the KIB team.  They learned about activities in the areas of litter prevention, beautification and recycling, and also got to meet KIB’s toucan mascot Kirby.  The KIB representatives showed how they make learning fun by using a prize wheel or skits, and also invited students to identify what recyclable items were used to make a variety of products they brought, such as t-shirts and rulers.

“We have attended more career days this spring than ever before, and along with schools we go to every year, we were also able to visit some schools I had never been to like Hanes,” said KIB staff member Julie Schmitt.  “We enjoy telling students about KIB and the importance of what we do, and I think we sparked their interest in volunteering and taking care of the environment, starting with their own community.  It is always worthwhile and rewarding to come to an Irving ISD career day.”
