Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) continued its outreach to the students of the Irving Independent School District by attending another career day, this time at Sally B. Elliott Elementary, on Monday, May 23.  KIB representatives presented four sessions, speaking to approximately 115 third and fourth graders and their teachers during the afternoon. Students learned that there is no “typical” day at KIB, and that staff is often out in the community conducting a variety of projects related to litter prevention, beautification or recycling.  KIB emphasized that education is a big part of their programming, including making learning fun with tools like a spinning prize wheel or an environmental skit with mascots, including Kirby the toucan, whose name stands for “Keep Irving Recycling and Beautiful Year-Round.”  The students also learned the importance of recycling, and matched recyclables with the new products made from them.

“We have really enjoyed visiting so many schools this spring for career days,” said KIB Board member Margie Stipes.  “Many of the Elliott students remembered KIB and Kirby from the Arbor Day celebration we held here in November, and they still were quite proud of the fact that they were the hosts because Elliott was the top paper recycler in the district.  This school has a long history of engaging the children in environmental responsibility, and it shows.”
