Irving Family Advocacy Center staff with one of the donated blankets

Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) recently joined forces with the Irving-based “All Things Made New” mentoring program to make and donate four “no-sew” blankets as part of an on-going service project.  The youth from the organization prepared the fleece material provided by KIB, then assembled the blankets, which were donated to the Irving Family Advocacy Center.  KIB staff visited the center on July 21 and presented the blankets to the center, which provides counseling and other services to Irving families and youth.

KIB first became acquainted with All Things Made New when the directors, Adan and Michelle Flores, volunteered at the annual “Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off” in April of this year.  They reached out to KIB to find ways that the young people who come to their facility could give back to the community.  All Things Made New inspires and encourages pre-teen or teen-age girls and boys, as well as their parents, through a variety of mentoring programs.  In addition to volunteer service, they help the youth and families with goal-setting, financial responsibility, public speaking, team building and much more.

KIB Board Member Scott Wilson said that this is typical of what KIB does in the community. “The blanket project has become a very popular way for groups, particularly those involving youth, to be of service,” said Wilson. “In this case we have a group of teens who are being mentored at All Things Made New working together to make and donate the blankets to fellow residents of the Irving community at the Family Advocacy Center.  That’s really what Keep Irving Beautiful is all about – bringing people together to work toward a common goal to improve our community.”
