Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) participated in North Lake’s annual Earth Day Event on Thursday, April 21, at the Central Campus.  At their table, they distributed information about KIB events and gave away items like pens, mini-frisbees, and reusable drink pouches.  In support of the spirit of Earth Day, long-time KIB sponsor Vizient (formerly VHA) generously donated reusable insulated plastic cups which were also given away at the KIB table. Several student organizations also had tables, and the college’s Green Team members dressed as superheroes in capes to encourage attendees to recycle.  Students and staff promoted the nation-wide collegiate “RecycleMania” competition, which North Lake has won five times in the past eight years, with the “Bring Back PinMan” slogan.  The Texas-based musical group “Vocal Trash” entertained the crowd with songs played on instruments made from repurposed items like toolboxes and trash cans.

“KIB has had a long partnership with North Lake College, and has participated in the Earth Day event for many years,” said board member and North Lake history professor Dr. Yolanda Romero.  “We feel that it is important to carry the message of environmental responsibility, and this event is a great way to do that.  The college had made significant strides in this area with initiatives like Tree Campus USA, the Green Diploma program, and RecycleMania, and KIB is proud to be a partner in these efforts.”
