The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving presents “Arabian Nights” at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 14 at the Irving Arts Center’s Carpenter Hall. The concert begins orchestra’s 31st anniversary “Sundays at the Symphony” series for 2018-19.
The orchestra also announces that its website has been updated and revamped. Area residents are encouraged to visit www.npoirving.comto see more complete information about every aspect of the organization’s life.
To celebrate NPOI’s entry into its fourth decade, Dr. Sergio Espinosa, NPOI’s conductor and musical director, has chosen the same program for this concert that the orchestra played in 1988, NPOI’s inaugural year.
The New Philharmonic will play the overture to Die Meistersinger von Nürnbergby Richard Wagner, Franz Schubert’s Symphony no. 5, and Scheherazadeby Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
Dr. Espinosa is an associate professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. A specialist in string music education, he has given workshops and presentations throughout the United States, Canada, China and Australia. He also serves as Senior Music Examiner for the International Baccalaureate organization in Wales, United Kingdom.
The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving is a community orchestra, consisting of trained musicians who choose to continue to play their instruments while they serve in other professions: teaching, accounting, computer science, film-making and others. NPOI has performed for audiences in Irving, Euless, Dallas and throughout the Metroplex.
Orchestra leaders stress that it is not too late to buy season tickets for NPOI’s five concerts throughout the season (October 14, December 9, February 10, April 7, and May 19). The tickets are “flex” tickets—meaning that if one purchases a ticket for one of these concerts, and it becomes impossible to attend, the ticket can be switched to another concert, with a reservation. This can be accomplished by calling the IAC box office at 972-252-2787.
In addition, purchase of season tickets gets patrons one concert free during the season: i.e., adult tickets cost a total of $80 instead of $100, senior tickets are $60 instead of $75, and student tickets are $40 instead of $50. Single tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students.
For ticket information or reservations, call the IAC box office at 972-252-2787, or go to www.IrvingArtsCenter.com.
