Keep Irving Beautiful continued the tradition of participating in the North Lake College Earth Day Celebration at the Central Campus.  The event took place on Wednesday, April 17 in the courtyard, and included performances by several dance groups and the NLC Jazz Band, tables of green vendors and exhibitors from City of Irving departments, as well as a free barbecue lunch for all attendees.  KIB had an information table and representatives spoke with students and faculty about volunteer opportunities.

This year’s event was preceded by a ceremony to commemorate the LEED certification of the Student Life Center (the “H” Building).  Jonathan Kraatz, the Executive Director of the U.S. Green Building Council in North Texas, presented a plaque to North Lake President Christa Slejko.  Numerous guests and dignitaries were in attendance, including former NLC President Herlinda Glasscock, a long-time proponent of green initiatives on campus.

“We always look forward to coming out to North Lake every year for this event,” said KIB’s Julie Schmitt.  “It’s great to see so many students enjoying a day dedicated to taking care of our environment, and learning more about what they can do to help.  North Lake has been a great friend, partner and supporter of KIB for many years, so we were especially happy to be here to see them honored at the LEED certification ceremony.”
