2013 Mattress firm Community Service Day Group Pho Mattress Firm volunteers after their cleanup of Mountain Creek Preserve

Keep Irving Beautiful partnered with Mattress Firm for a cleanup of Mountain Creek Preserve on April 26. Ten employee volunteers worked a total of 30 hours, and collected 1,940 pounds of trash and recyclables. The team was organized by Stephanie Albin, manager of the Irving store located at Airport Freeway and Story Road.

KIB Coordinator Rick Hose noted that more companies are becoming involved in projects like this. “I am seeing an increase in the number of businesses who are interested in community service,” he said. “It’s good to see that volunteer spirit in companies that we have worked with for years, as well as in a new partner like Mattress Firm. KIB would also like to thank another great partner, the City of Irving Parks and Solid Waste Services Departments. Whenever we do a cleanup like this, they are invaluable in reserving the locations, providing roll-off containers and weighing the materials collected. And we can’t forget ICTN, who always does a great job in covering KIB activities.”

The volunteers enjoyed their day of service and felt that they had made a positive impact. “The community gives so much to Mattress Firm, day in and day out, so it’s important to us that we actually give back to that community,” said Jason Cowen, District Manager.
