Students and adult sponsors from Christ Church’s 516 Student Ministry joined Keep Irving Beautiful (KIB) at Trinity View Park on July 18 for a volunteer service project. After a safety speech and instructions, the group split into teams and took on the task of painting the concrete bases of four light poles at one of park’s four football fields. Each group began by scraping the bases to remove old paint, then applied a coat of bright white paint to give the field a fresh new look. Then, the volunteers painted in the spectator area at another football field, making the safety railings more vibrant and visible.

The 10 students and three adults gave a combined total of 45 hours of service on the project as part of a summer camp program the church holds each year. Under the leadership of Christ Church Pastor Brian Bunch, who also is a KIB board member, the group participated in a cleanup at Trinity View for their project last year. The volunteers also conduct neighborhood cleanups throughout the year as part of their ongoing commitment to community service.

“KIB was happy to welcome the 516 Student Ministry back for another project,” said KIB board member and faith groups co-chair Rachel Moon. “These young people are a pleasure to work with and set a great example for other groups to follow. The results of their effort will be appreciated by the many people who visit this park.”

The City of Irving Parks Department provided supplies and logistical support to help make this project a success.
