The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving presents “Music and Mythology” at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, October 13 at the Irving Arts Center’s Carpenter Hall. The concert begins orchestra’s 32nd “Sundays at the Symphony” series for 2019-20.

Dr. Sergio Espinosa, NPOI’s conductor and musical director, has chosen two well-known works for this concert: Wagner’s Prelude to Act I of the opera, Lohengrin, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 41, the “Jupiter” Symphony. But he has also programmed a less famous work—Dvorák’s The Midday Witch, a scary middle-European story about parents and children.
Dr. Espinosa is an associate professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. A specialist in string music education, he has given workshops and presentations throughout the United States, Canada, China and Australia. He also serves as Senior Music Examiner for the International Baccalaureate organization in Wales, United Kingdom.
The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving is a community orchestra, consisting of trained musicians who choose to continue to play their instruments while they serve in other professions: teaching, accounting, computer science, film-making and others. NPOI has performed for audiences in Irving, Euless, Dallas and throughout the Metroplex.
Orchestra leaders stress that it is not too late to buy season tickets for NPOI’s five concerts throughout the season (October 13, December 15, February 9, March 29, and May 17). The tickets are “flex” tickets—meaning that if one purchases a ticket for one of these concerts, and it becomes impossible to attend, the ticket can be switched to another concert, with a reservation. This can be accomplished by calling the IAC box office at 972-252-2787.
In addition, purchase of season tickets gets patrons one concert free during the season: i.e., adult tickets cost a total of $80 instead of $100, senior tickets are $60 instead of $75, and student tickets are $40 instead of $50. Single tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for students.
