New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving Presents "Freedom and Destiny!" on February 10

The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving presents “Freedom and Destiny” at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, February 10 at the Irving Arts Center’s Carpenter Hall. The concert continues the orchestra’s 31st anniversary “Sundays at the Symphony” series for 2018-19 with works by five great composers. IISD students will play alongside NPOI members, and the winner of the orchestra’s annual Concerto competition will perform a violin concerto by J.S. Bach.

The orchestra also announces that its website has been updated and revamped. Area residents are encouraged to visit www.npoirving.comto see more complete information about every aspect of the organization’s life.

Dr. Sergio Espinosa, NPOI’s conductor and musical director, has chosen Beethoven’s Egmont overture, Lizst’s Les Preludes, Verdi’s overture to La forza del destino, Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien and Grieg’s Peer Gynt suite. Advanced IISD orchestra students will play alongside NPOI members in the Beethoven overture.

Soloist Marshall Romanick Baldwin is a senior at MacArthur High School, where he is concertmaster of the Varsity Orchestra. He has been a member of All-Region orchestras for the last six years, two years each in the concert, philharmonic, and honors orchestras, respectively. Last year, he won a gold medal at the Solo/Ensemble All-State competition in Austin for his performance of Fritz Kreisler’s Praeludium and Allegro. He has studied for six years with Becky Rathbun, of Bedford.

A National Merit semi-finalist and a national AP scholar, Marshall is applying to colleges across the United States, where--in addition to keeping up with his violin--he aims to pursue his interest in meteorology.

Dr. Espinosa is an associate professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. A specialist in string music education, he has given workshops and presentations throughout the United States, Canada, China and Australia. He also serves as Senior Music Examiner for the International Baccalaureate organization in Wales, United Kingdom.

The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving is a community orchestra, consisting of trained musicians who choose to continue to play their instruments while they serve in other professions: teaching, accounting, computer science, film-making and others. NPOI has performed for audiences in Irving, Euless, Dallas and throughout the Metroplex.

Ticket prices range from $10 to $20, and flex-ticket packages are available for NPOI’s 5-concert season. For ticket information or reservations, call the IAC box office at 972-252-2787, or go to www.IrvingArtsCenter.com
