Dallas Tegulu Samithi volunteers

On Saturday, June 29, a group of 29 adult and 6 youth volunteers from the non-profit organization Dallas Telugu Samithi Society partnered with Keep Irving Beautiful and the City of Irving Parks and Solid Waste Services Departments for a cleanup at T.W. Richardson Grove Park.  After 105 combined hours of volunteer service, the group had collected 280 pounds of trash and 120 pounds of recyclable materials.  The roll off container and weighing was provided by Solid Waste Services.  ICTN was on hand to interview volunteers and create a video of the day’s activities.

Dallas Telugu Samithi serves and supports the Telugu community and encourages partnerships with other non-profits, such as KIB, in the area.  Srinath Jandhyala worked with KIB Coordinator Rick Hose to organize the group for the project.  “Everyone is so excited to be here,” said Jandhyala.  “We all are happy to be doing the park cleanup and working with KIB for the first time.” Volunteer Ravi Tupurami added, “This is the community where I live.  We love nature and it’s important to keep the park clean and protect it for future generations.”

KIB Board Member Arnold Martin noted that groups are coming from all over the Metroplex to Irving’s Campion Trails.  “Although this group is based in Dallas, several of the members live in Irving and suggested T.W. Richardson Grove as a location for their first event with KIB,” he said.  “And while they were here, the Dallas Rollerblade Club came by and invited them to share in the hamburger and hot dog lunch they cooked.  It’s great to see people discovering Irving’s beautiful parks.”
