KIB volunteers with mascot Kirby at the YMCA Fall Festival

Keep Irving Beautiful has a long tradition of partnering with the Irving Family YMCA, and continued that by participating in the annual Fall Festival, held at the YMCA on Friday evening, October 27.  KIB helped to make this a “green event” by providing the recycling stations which were placed throughout the grounds and marked with signs in both English and Spanish reminding everyone to place trash and recyclables in the proper containers.  Seven North Lake College Service Learning students volunteered their time by monitoring these stations, informing attendees what types of items could be recycled, and walking the ground to keep them litter-free.  They also ran the prize wheel at the KIB table, where attendees won books (donated by the Friends of the Irving Public Library) by answering questions about recycling and the environment.  In total, the students gave 24.5 hours of time to helping KIB and the YMCA in making this a successful event.

“One thing that makes the YMCA such a great partner is that they share a common goal with KIB,” said KIB Board Member Rachel Moon, “and that is to get people of all ages involved in community activities.  The Fall Festival is a very community oriented and family friendly event, and we are proud to support the YMCA any way we can.”
