New Philharmonic of Irving Presents "The Rhythms of Dance!"

The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving presents “The Rhythms of Dance” 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21, as its annual Latino Connections concert. The concert wraps up the orchestra’s “Sundays at the Symphony” series for 2016-17 at the Irving Arts Center’s Carpenter Hall.

The concert will be preceded by NPOI’s annual silent auction, at 2:30 p.m. in the Carpenter Hall lobby.

Selected advanced Irving ISD orchestra students will join NPOI for part of the concert, which also features soloist Nicole Beltran, winner of its Richard Giangiulio Youth Concerto competition, playing the first movement of Mozart’s “Violin Concerto No. 3.”

Dr. Sergio Espinosa, NPOI’s conductor and musical director, has programmed these dance-oriented pieces from the world of  Latin symphonic music: “Danzón No. 2” by Arturo Marquez, “Suite Estancias” by Alberto Ginastera,” “Sinfonietta” by Pablo Moncayo, “Estampas Nocturnas” by Manuel M. Ponce, and “Sensemayá” by Silvestre Revueltas.

Nicole Beltran is a senior at Irving high school, where she has been concertmaster of the varsity orchestra for two years. She has been a part of several orchestras over the years, including the All-Region orchestra, Arlington Youth Symphony, and the Lone Star Youth Symphony. She has also been concertmaster of the Irving All-City Orchestra and has made it to state for solo-ensemble. Aside from her musical activities, Nicole is a part of the National Honors Society and Future Leaders of Irving. She will be attending Stephen F. Austin State University this fall, where she plans to get her bachelors in music education and her masters in music performance.

Dr. Espinosa is an associate professor at the University of Texas at Arlington. A specialist in string music education, he has given workshops and presentations throughout the United States, Canada, China and Australia. He also serves as Senior Music Examiner for the International Baccalaureate organization in Wales, United Kingdom.

The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving is a community orchestra, consisting of trained musicians who choose to continue to play their instruments while they serve in other professions: teaching, accounting, computer science, film-making and others.
