Keep Irving Beautiful Visits Thomas Haley For Career Day

As part of their ongoing schools outreach program, Keep Irving Beautiful participated in the Thomas Haley Elementary Career Day on May 9. KIB was represented by staff member Julie Schmitt, who presented to four classes of second and first graders. The children learned about volunteerism, KIB events and activities and the importance of keeping your community clean by not littering. They also learned about different items that can be made from materials that are recycled instead of going into a landfill.

"At Keep Irving Beautiful, one of the things we stress the most is reaching out to children at an early age,” said Ms. Schmitt.  “We have attended Thomas Haley’s Career Day for several years, and we do our best to send a staff or board member to every school that invites us.  In addition to career days, we also bring our environmental skit with mascots for performances like we have done at Clifton Early Childhood for five years. In each of the classes I spoke to today, there were several of the students who remembered us - or more correctly, they remembered Kirby and his lesons – from when they were at Clifton, so that was very rewarding.”

Keep Irving Beautiful is a nonprofit, grassroots, leadership organization dedicated to educating our community about litter abatement, recycling and beautification in order to help preserve the health and promote the social and economic prosperity of our city. As an award winning affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful, Keep Irving Beautiful reaches out to and partners with all sectors of our city including government, business, church, cultural, educational, neighborhood and civic organizations.  If you are interested in volunteering with KIB, please go to Keep Irving Beautiful, or call the KIB office at 972-721-2175.
