The New Philharmonic Orchestra of Irving presents “A Big Canvas – Mahler, Fauré” at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 20 at the Irving Arts Center’s Carpenter Hall. The concert wraps up the orchestra’s 30th anniversary “Sundays at the Symphony” series for 2017-18. It is preceded by NPOI’s annual silent auction, at 2:30 p.m. in the Carpenter Hall lobby.
Dr. Sergio Espinosa, NPOI’s conductor and musical director, has put together a very large orchestra for Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (“Titan”), the composer’s personal essay on living. The New Philharmonic will also play Gabriel Fauré’s delicate “Suite from the play, Pelleás et Melisande.”
NPOI’s annual silent auction (2:30 p.m. in the Carpenter Hall lobby) offers the public tickets for concerts, museums, ballet, theaters, restaurants, health and beauty venues, art works, musical instruments, and lessons. Bidding begins at half what the items are worth.
